Hey there my LOVELY MAVERICKS OF MAKEUP! So I got a question about my rules of makeup and to be honest I almost did not want to answer it! Limiting creativity is horrible but walking out of your house looking like Tammy Faye is even worse! So I decided to do my research and report on the newest rules while putting my two sense in. I contacted professionals and checked out numerous websites and I am happy to report that we have it: RULES TO ABIDE AND BEND. Check the rules out and use them but don't ever let them crush creativity because after all creativity is what gives us beauty!
1) ENHANCE YOUR FAVORITE FEATURE
Pick your favorite feature, maybe it is the one you get the most compliments on or just simply the one you fancy, enhance it and draw more attention to it. Enhancing does not mean load on the makeup but rather use a few tricks of the trade to draw more attention to it. For example if you have big blue or brown eyes use colors opposite of blue or brown on the color wheel. Like pinks and lilacs make blue eyes pop and dark, rich greens and plum colors grab attention for brown eyes. If you have beautiful lips use a nude liner to enhance the cupid's bow or learn to create a fuller mouth using liner, lipstick and gloss.
2) Watch color combinations throughout the face and remember to balance
I saw a girl's profile picture the other day and she reminded me of a 1980's dream date barbie (believe it or not pretty close to that picture to the left). This is a gorgeous girl mind you yet on her eyes she had sparkly purple eye shadow, a sweet bubblegum pink on her cheeks and light, light pink glossy lips. That is just too much for one face to handle. If you want to combine purple and pink do so cautiously do eyes and lips with a bronzer on the cheeks or do eyes and cheeks with a nude-esque lip. The girl looked like she was replicating Dream Date Barbie right to the P.
3) Don't Cake on the foundation, just like eating cake, use sparingly.
Making sure every inch of the face is perfectly covered with foundation is a pain! It takes up prescious time and it leaves the face looking like mask. Instead take a concealer that you have successful matched to your skin tone and "conceal" spots like the dark circles under the eyes and little blemishes. Then apply foundation to red or uneven areas, these areas usually are the nose, cheeks and chin. Use a fingertip or a sponge and blend out and up toward the hairline and jaw.
4) Don't match your lipstick to your makeup
This tip is not only beauty sound but economically sound too. No one needs 5 million lipsticks to go with all the possible makeup looks you can come up with. Pick lipsticks that will compliment your natural lip color. Believe it or not lipstick hues are affected by natural lip color thus causing the package color to not appear as rich as it is advertised. I can not tell you how many times I have bought a lipstick thinking its going to look amazing but then finding out on my lips it is a totally different hue. Try the lip color before you buy it and stick to neutrals like peachy nudes, pinky browns and roses for day and look for brighter, more dramatic tones that share the same color family for evening.
5) No one never has time for makeup, do a quick fix
Curl, Coat and gloss before rushing off to school or work. By this I mean curl your lashes (this is a must, it opens your peepers making you look alive, alert and ready to work), coat with your favorite mascara and finally gloss those luscious lips in a complimenting shade lip gloss and you are off to crazy, hectic life. This will not only be easy and quick for you late risers but also keep your spirits up knowing you look good. My go to for everyday lip gloss is Orgasm (I know you will remember that) by NARS and mascara, I have a rotation of 3, Bad Gal Lash, L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes and Cover Girl Lash Blast (I am going to do a mascara review soon promise).
